Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked multiple security installations in Auno community, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, on February 5, killing four soldiers and injuring several others.
The assault, which occurred around 11 p.m., targeted military forward operating bases, a police crack squad unit, and a rapid response squad base simultaneously. The attackers also fired sporadically into the compounds during the raid.
According to military sources, the insurgents planted an improvised explosive device on the route to the scene. A military gun truck responding to the attack triggered the explosive, resulting in the fatal injuries of four soldiers.
Among the wounded is Inspector Salisu Adamu of the police crack squad in Maiduguri, who was shot in the leg and is receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital. Injured soldiers were evacuated to the 7 Division Military Hospital in Maiduguri.
Troops from Operation HADIN KAI, alongside police squads and local hunters, successfully repelled the attack. Borno State remains a hotspot for terrorist activity in Nigeria, with frequent attacks on both security forces and civilians.
This incident follows closely after a deadly assault on communities in Kwara State earlier in the week, highlighting the persistent threat of insurgent violence across several regions.
