Kano State Shari’a Commission Bans Mosques from Blocking Roads During Friday Prayers

The Kano State Shari’a Commission has issued a directive prohibiting all mosques in the state from blocking public roads during Friday (Juma’ah) prayers.

In a statement aimed at maintaining public order, the commission emphasized that obstructing roads for congregational prayers infringes on the rights of other road users and disrupts movement. It warned that any mosque found violating the order would face legal prosecution.

The commission acknowledged the importance of Friday prayers as a religious obligation but stressed that such observances must be conducted without causing public inconvenience or endangering lives.

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad welcomed the decision on social media, describing it as aligned with Islamic principles of orderliness and consideration for others. He urged widespread dissemination of the directive to ensure compliance.

The move is expected to ease long-standing traffic challenges faced by residents and motorists in Kano, especially on Fridays, and reflects an effort to balance religious practice with civic responsibility.
