A routine request for payment in a residential compound in Delta State has culminated in a shocking act of violence, leaving a family devastated and a community in mourning.
The incident, which unfolded in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area, allegedly began over an unpaid electricity bill of 1,500 Naira (approximately $1.80 USD). According to reports, Mr. Lucky Obaze, the landlord, approached his tenant, identified only as Chiboy, to collect the amount—a standard transaction that spiraled into a fatal confrontation.
A heart-wrenching account was provided by Master Success Lucky, one of the deceased's children, who witnessed the escalating argument. He recounted that after a physical altercation downstairs, his father retreated to their upstairs apartment to rest. The situation turned deadly moments later when the tenant, armed with a knife, allegedly forced his way upstairs. The young boy attempted to intervene but was overpowered. The tenant then confronted Mr. Obaze in the family's parlor and stabbed him.
The victim's wife, Mrs. Helen Obaze, is now faced with the sudden burden of caring for their six children alone. In a passionate appeal, she has called on security agencies, the government, and human rights organizations to ensure justice is served for her husband. The police have taken custody of the suspect and have deposited the victim's remains in a mortuary to facilitate a thorough investigation.
