Billionaire Philanthropist Folorunso Alakija Donates N34 Billion State-of-the-Art Hospital to Osun State University

In a landmark act of philanthropy aimed at transforming Nigeria's healthcare and medical education landscape, billionaire businesswoman and Africa's richest woman, Folorunso Alakija, has donated a N34 billion hospital to Osun State University.

The facility, named the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, was officially inaugurated on December 15, 2025, in Osogbo. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

A Facility Built for the Future

The hospital is a pentagon-shaped, state-of-the-art complex designed to serve as a premier teaching and research institution.

Key features include:

*   250 patient beds for comprehensive care.
*   Four modern operating theaters equipped for advanced surgical procedures.
*   Advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT scanners.
*   Full-scale laboratories to support clinical research and training.

Addressing Critical National Challenges

The donation addresses two of Nigeria's most pressing challenges: the "brain drain" of medical professionals and the heavy reliance on medical tourism. By creating a world-class training and research environment within Nigeria, the hospital aims to retain talent, elevate local medical standards, and reduce the need for citizens to seek complex treatments abroad.

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, speaking at the inauguration, hailed the project as a "transformational investment in Nigeria's human capital," emphasizing its potential to produce a new generation of highly skilled doctors and specialists.

This donation stands as one of the single largest private contributions to Nigeria's public health infrastructure in recent years, solidifying Folorunso Alakija's legacy not only as a business icon but as a pivotal contributor to national development.
