FRSC Investigation Blames Speeding and Wrongful Overtaking for Anthony Joshua's Fatal Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has concluded its preliminary investigation into the tragic accident involving world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, identifying two critical traffic violations as the direct cause.

In a statement issued by the Corps, authorities confirmed that the collision resulted from excessive speed and wrongful overtaking—two of the most common and deadly factors on Nigerian highways.

Timeline and Details of the Collision

The crash occurred around noon on Monday in the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State. According to the FRSC's findings, a black Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his associates was traveling beyond the legal speed limit. The driver reportedly lost control while attempting an overtaking maneuver, causing the vehicle to swerve and crash into the rear of a stationary Sinotruck parked along the roadside.

The accident involved five adult males. Tragically, two passengers died at the scene, their bodies later moved to a morgue in Sagamu. Anthony Joshua was rescued with minor injuries and one other injured person was taken to a hospital for treatment. Two other individuals escaped unharmed.

The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division has been notified to proceed with further investigation and documentation of the incident.
