2027 Election: Aisha Yesufu Vows to Oppose Any Ticket Featuring Peter Obi as Running Mate

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has sparked political debate with a firm declaration ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

In a clear statement, Yesufu asserted she would actively oppose any presidential ticket that positions former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi as a vice-presidential nominee.

“If Peter Obi becomes a running mate to anyone in 2027, I will work against that ticket in my little capacity,” she stated.

Yesufu explained her position stems from a recurring pattern in Nigerian politics where, in her view, the most competent individuals are often relegated to secondary roles while less capable figures take the presidential slot. Her comments have drawn significant attention, particularly among supporters who see Obi as a leading figure rather than a deputy.

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, remains a central figure in the 2027 political conversation, especially following his recent association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). With several prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi also linked to the race, the contest for party nominations is intensifying.

Yesufu’s stance signals a demand for a principal role for Obi in the next electoral cycle and highlights emerging tensions within opposition alliances.
