World champion boxer Anthony Joshua has returned to the United Kingdom after being involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two members of his training team.
The crash occurred last Monday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the SUV Joshua was traveling in collided with a stationary truck. His longtime personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, both died in the incident.
Joshua, who was born in Nigeria and represents Britain professionally, survived with minor injuries. He was treated at a Lagos hospital and discharged on New Year’s Eve before flying back to the UK to be with family and mourn his friends.
Funeral and Legal Updates
Funeral services for Ayodele and Ghami are scheduled for Sunday at a mosque in London, where members of the boxing community are expected to gather.
Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities have charged the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, with causing death by dangerous driving as the investigation continues.
