Army Arrests Suspected Boko Haram Drug Supplier in Borno

MAIDUGURI – Nigerian Army troops operating in the North-East have arrested a 65-year-old woman suspected of supplying cannabis to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The suspect, Hauwa Abulazeez, was apprehended on Friday in the Askira Uba Local Government Area. According to a statement from the media information officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Major Sani Uba, she is believed to be part of a network that provides illicit drugs to militants operating in several communities, including Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya.

Drugs Sourced from Taraba

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect sourced the cannabis from the Sarti Baruwa area of Taraba State and transported it through established supply routes into Borno for distribution.

During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 30 kilograms. The military described the seizure as a significant interception aimed at cutting off a resource that sustains terrorist activities.

Ongoing Investigations and Broader Objective

The suspect is currently in custody for further interrogation as efforts continue to dismantle the wider trafficking network.

In its statement, the military high command emphasized that disrupting such supply chains is critical to undermining criminal and terrorist operations, thereby enhancing security and stability in the region.

“The interception underscores the broader impact of denying illicit supply chains that fuel violence, criminality, and instability,” the statement read. “Operation Hadin Kai remains unwavering in its resolve to confront and eliminate all forms of criminality across the North-East.”
