The body of four-year-old Johnathan “John John” Boley was found on Friday about two miles from his home in Jasper, Alabama, after a two-day search. The boy, who had been missing since New Year’s Eve, was discovered with his black Labrador retriever, Buck, who was found alive nearby.
Sheriff Nick Smith of Walker County said the community was “devastated by this news.” Johnathan was last seen playing outside with his six-year-old brother before venturing past the fence line. A multi-agency search involving drones, helicopters, K-9 units, and thermal imaging was launched following his disappearance.
Complicated Investigation
During the search, authorities reported finding what they initially described as possible explosive devices on the property, though they later clarified the items were not active explosives. Neighbors told investigators they had heard explosions in the area for weeks.
The boy’s father, Jameson Kyle Boley, was arrested on unrelated charges of chemical endangerment of a child and unlawful manufacture of a destructive device. Sheriff Smith emphasized the charges were not connected to the child’s disappearance, noting the father had cooperated in the search.
The investigation into Johnathan’s death remains ongoing.
