In a televised interview that has sparked national controversy, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has leveled a serious allegation against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. El-Rufai claims the President has been authorizing monthly withdrawals of 100 billion Naira from the national Federation Account without the constitutionally required approval from the National Assembly.
Describing the alleged action as a gross constitutional violation, El-Rufai stated, “Every month, President Bola Tinubu deducts 100 billion Naira from the Federation Account. This is unconstitutional and an impeachable offence.” He asserted these deductions have persisted for over 15 months, amounting to an estimated total of 1.5 trillion Naira.
The former governor, speaking on Arise TV, called on the National Assembly and relevant oversight bodies to urgently investigate what he termed a systematic breach of fiscal accountability. He warned that failing to address such actions sets a dangerous precedent for governance.
The allegation has ignited intense debate across social media and news platforms, placing a spotlight on presidential authority and public finance management. Political analysts suggest that if substantiated, these claims could lead to significant legal and political consequences, including formal impeachment discussions. The situation underscores growing calls for transparency in Nigeria's fiscal operations.
