Israeli PM Netanyahu Outlines Plan to Support Christians in Nigeria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel is developing an initiative to support Christian communities in Nigeria and other parts of the world, positioning the country as the foremost defender of Christian rights globally.

Speaking to evangelical leaders in Florida, Netanyahu framed global religious persecution as a struggle against radical Islam, citing Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood as primary forces targeting Judeo-Christian traditions. He specifically mentioned Nigeria as one of several nations where Christians face persecution.

“We are conscious of the fact that Christians are being persecuted… in Nigeria and beyond,” Netanyahu stated. “One country protects the Christian community… and that country is Israel. There is no other.”

The Prime Minister outlined plans to lead a coalition of nations to aid “beleaguered” Christian communities, offering intelligence and unspecified resources in Africa and the Middle East. His remarks came a day after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently authorized military strikes in Nigeria citing threats to Christians.

Israel is the only country to have publicly aligned with the U.S. claim of widespread Christian persecution in Nigeria, reinforcing the close alliance between the two nations amid ongoing international debate over religious violence and foreign intervention in the region.
