LAGOS – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the registration timeline for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The registration window will open on January 26 and close on February 28, 2025.
JAMB's Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, made the announcement during a meeting with state Commissioners for Education in Lagos. He clarified that while the sale of application documents (e-PINs) began earlier on January 19, the **actual registration of candidates** at approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide will run for the stated five-week period.
Key Dates for Prospective Candidates
* UTME Registration: January 26 – February 28, 2025.
* Mock UTME Selection Deadline: February 16, 2025.
* Direct Entry (DE) Application Window: March 2 – April 25, 2025.
Stricter Monitoring and Age Policy
Professor Oloyede outlined enhanced monitoring measures for the 2025 exercise. All activities at participating CBT centres will be monitored in real-time from the JAMB headquarters in Abuja. The board has provisionally listed 924 centres, which must pass a final accreditation test.
He also announced a stricter policy for underage candidates. For the 2025 cycle, the results of candidates below 16 years old will be withheld pending a comprehensive evaluation. To qualify for an age waiver, such candidates must score at least 80% in the UTME, post-UTME screening, relevant senior school exams, and a special assessment.
"Candidates who will be less than 16 years old by September 30, 2026, will undergo an intensive evaluation to determine their eligibility," Oloyede stated.
Important Warnings and Clarifications
The Registrar issued several critical advisories for candidates:
1. No Extra Fees: Candidates are not to pay any service charge to CBT centres beyond the official registration fee approved by JAMB.
2. Early Registration: Candidates are urged to register early to secure their preferred examination town, as late registration may limit options.
3. Full Disclosure: Candidates must declare any previous JAMB registration or admission. Withholding this information or running concurrent undergraduate programs is a sanctionable offense.
4. Examination Town Selection: JAMB does not post candidates to towns outside their selected group. Choosing a "group of towns" implies acceptance of any town within that group.
The board warned that any CBT centre whose registration process cannot be monitored live from headquarters will not be paid, and its registrations may be invalidated.
This announcement sets in motion the critical annual process for millions of Nigerian students seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the 2026/2027 academic session.
