Katsina Police Arrest Two Suspected Gunrunners, Recover 305 Rounds of Ammunition

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended two suspected gunrunners and seized 305 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during an operation along the Zaria–Funtua highway.

In a statement released on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu identified the suspects as Shu’aibu Musa (30), also known as Abba, and Ahmed Sani (27). They were arrested on January 27, 2026, around 2:00 p.m. during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation.

According to the police, the suspects were intercepted while riding a motorcycle. A search of their belongings yielded six AK-47 magazines and 305 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, which were carefully concealed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly collected the arms and ammunition from Jos, Plateau State, and were transporting them to deliver to a notorious bandit leader in the region.

The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. They, along with the recovered exhibits, remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu commended the officers involved for their vigilance and urged the public to continue providing timely and useful information to enhance security across Katsina State.
