The Kwara State Police Command has stated that a widely circulated video alleging the assault of women protesters at the Government House in Ilorin is a "digitally manipulated composite," created by merging unrelated footage to falsely depict an incident that never occurred.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command said a forensic review of the clip revealed it was spliced together from scenes of separate, unrelated altercations and footage from an earlier peaceful protest.
The video, which sparked public outrage online, claimed to show security operatives brutalizing female protesters during a demonstration on December 27, 2025.
“The video currently circulating is a digitally manipulated composite. It was deliberately edited to create a false narrative,” the police statement read.
According to the command, some images attached to the video were traced to incidents that took place months prior and were unrelated to any protest in Ilorin. Investigators also noted that despite public appeals, no victims or complainants had come forward to file a formal report regarding the alleged assault.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, cautioned the public against spreading unverified information capable of inciting unrest. He urged organizers of public protests to notify security agencies in advance to ensure proper coordination and safety.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while protecting citizens' rights and warned that circulating false content could lead to legal consequences.
The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, had earlier directed the police to investigate the video following public concern over the allegations.
