NELFund Disburses N1.33 Billion to Support 6,308 UNILAG Students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has announced the disbursement of N1.33 billion to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025/2026 academic session. The funds are designated to support 6,308 eligible students under the federal government’s student loan program.

According to a statement released on Friday by NELFund’s Director of Communication, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the release was made on January 19 in accordance with the approved schedule for the session.

Oluwatuyi confirmed that the list of beneficiaries was drawn from verified institutional data submitted during the application and validation process. She urged students who have been cleared to proceed with their academic registration without delay.

“NELFund will ensure timely application of funds to students’ accounts and promote clear communication to avoid misinformation,” Oluwatuyi stated. She also advised students to contact their institution’s bursary or student affairs offices for any necessary clarifications.

The announcement follows recent comments from NELFund’s Director of Operations, Mustapha Iyal, regarding delayed payments for some beneficiaries. Last week, Iyal acknowledged that approximately 11,000 students nationwide were awaiting arrears totaling about N927.98 million, attributing the delay to technical and operational issues.

Iyal assured that these outstanding payments would soon be resolved and noted plans to expand the program in the 2026–2027 academic session.
