Prominent Nigerian clergyman Primate Elijah Ayodele has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, alleging that U.S. President Donald Trump is actively plotting to remove him from office.
In a statement released by his media aide, Ayodele claimed Trump has “caged” Tinubu and that American security assistance to Nigeria is a pretext to infiltrate the government. “Trump is adamant to remove President Tinubu. America will be part of those who will be against Tinubu,” he stated.
The cleric asserted that Washington's true motive is not to help end insecurity in Nigeria, but to undermine Tinubu's presidency. “He isn’t after ending insecurity in the country, he knows what he wants and won’t stop at nothing towards achieving it,” Ayodele said.
He urged the Nigerian president to take decisive political action to counter the alleged plan, warning that without a strategic response, “his defeat would be celebrated.”
The statement adds to growing speculation about U.S.-Nigeria relations amid recent global geopolitical shifts, including the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela.
