Nollywood Actor and Filmmaker Arrested Over Alleged Involvement in Coup Plot Against Tinubu

Stanley Amandi, a Nollywood actor, director, and former Chairperson of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, has been arrested for his alleged role in a plot to violently overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.

According to a report by Premium Times, Amandi was taken into custody in September 2025 alongside military officers accused of planning the assassination of top government officials, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

Sources indicate that Amandi was allegedly hired to serve as a propagandist for the group planning the coup.

On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the existence of the plot, stating that investigations had been concluded and forwarded to the appropriate authorities. The military described the planned actions as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards” of the armed forces and confirmed that the indicted officers would face a military judicial panel.

Amandi is known for his work in films such as Tiger King (2008), Cornerstone (2019), and Once Upon a Dream (2024). His last public activity on social media was an Instagram post on September 19, 2025, shortly before his arrest.
