Nollywood Actress Angela Okorie Remanded in Prison Over Cybercrime Allegations

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been remanded to the Suleja Correctional Centre following her arraignment in Abuja on charges related to alleged cybercrimes.

Okorie was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). She was subsequently transferred to Abuja by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), where she was charged and brought before a court on Wednesday.

Confirming the arrest, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi stated that the matter was being handled by the national cybercrime unit in Abuja.

Filmmaker Ajeboba Stanley, who has been vocal about the case, criticized the pace of the judicial process, alleging an abuse of power. In social media posts, Stanley claimed Okorie was arrested at midnight, flown to Abuja by 6 a.m., and remanded the same morning.

“So the judiciary can work this fast?” Stanley wrote. “Whoever is in charge of Angela Okorie’s arrest should let her go and approach a competent court… I will be in Abuja tomorrow for Angela Okorie’s matter.”

Although police have not released specific details of the charges, industry sources suggest the case may be linked to Okorie’s long-running and highly public feud with fellow actress Mercy Johnson.

The conflict escalated last year when Okorie claimed Johnson was battling “an ailment I do not wish on my enemies” and accused her of hypocrisy in her public persona. Johnson responded at the time with a cryptic social media post before disengaging from the dispute.

Okorie’s case is expected to proceed as legal and industry observers await further official details from the police.
