The Nigerian national team camp has moved past reports of internal discord, with star striker Victor Osimhem returning to full training as the squad prepares for a crucial Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria this Saturday in Marrakech.
Rumors of a heated exchange between Osimhen and fellow forward Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique had sparked concerns about squad unity. However, team officials have firmly denied any lasting conflict. Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe addressed the speculation, stating that the matter was resolved internally and emphasizing that the squad remains united.
The resolution was visibly reinforced as both Osimhen and Lookman trained together on Tuesday evening. Lookman later shared a message of solidarity on social media with the caption, “Together always.” It is reported that NFF President Ibrahim Gusau played a key role in mediating the situation to ensure the team’s focus remains intact ahead of the high-stakes knockout match.
Nigeria will face an Algerian side known for its formidable defense, having conceded only once in the tournament so far. The Super Eagles, meanwhile, have matched a tournament record with 12 goals, setting the stage for a compelling tactical battle.
With harmony restored and the full squad available, coach Eric Chelle and his team are now channeling all efforts into overcoming Algeria and advancing toward the AFCON title.
