Police Arrest Seven Suspects Over Deadly Attack on Old Oyo National Park Officials

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a violent attack on the Old Oyo National Park in the Oloka area of Orire Local Government, which resulted in the death of five park officials.

According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade, the armed assault occurred on the evening of January 6, 2026, when a ten-man gang on motorcycles stormed the park office and opened fire on forest rangers and other personnel.

Following the attack, Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna ordered an intelligence-led operation, leading to the initial arrest of three suspects: Mohammed Dangi (52), Abubakar Abdullahi, and Sheu Usman. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime and revealed that the aim of the raid was to free previously arrested members of their syndicate held by park guards.

Subsequently, four more suspects were apprehended on January 25: Toro Malami (43), Usman Alhaji Ummaru, Laolo Muhammadu (22), and Usman Alhaji Isah (32). Police described one of those arrested as the alleged mastermind of the attack.

The statement noted that the suspects are providing credible information to aid in capturing the remaining gang members. Authorities reassured the public of continued efforts, in collaboration with other security agencies, to ensure safety across the state.

The command also thanked Governor Seyi Makinde and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for their support during the investigation.
