University Denies Involvement in Rent Dispute Following Student's Death

The management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has officially stated it had no connection to a private rental agreement linked to the death of a 300-level Computer Science student, Kelvin Danlami.

Reports indicate that Danlami was found deceased in his off-campus residence. Preliminary accounts from fellow students suggest his death may be connected to the loss of a significant sum of money.

In a press statement, the university's management, represented by Deputy Registrar Alhaji Baba Akote, clarified its position. It emphasized that the institution was not a party to, nor had any knowledge of, financial dealings between the deceased student and his landlord. The university described the matter as a private arrangement entirely separate from its academic and administrative operations.

While expressing condolences and concern, the management urged against speculation and the spread of unverified information. It reassured the public of its full cooperation with authorities for a transparent investigation into the tragic incident. The statement also reminded students of their primary academic focus and advised against engagements that could lead to financial or psychological distress.

The Niger State Police Command, through spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. Police reported that Danlami was found in his room and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities have contacted the family and state that an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
