Footage from the December 2025 joint U.S.-Nigeria airstrikes in Sokoto State has confirmed that multiple terrorists were killed and their hideouts and vehicles destroyed during the operation.
According to a report by Sunday PUNCH, the video—which remains classified but was reviewed by the newspaper—shows three separate strikes conducted between December 24 and 25, 2025. The footage reveals a secondary explosion following the initial attack, indicating the presence of explosives at the location. It also captured terrorists attempting to flee before being engaged by subsequent strikes.
While the exact number of casualties and vehicles destroyed could not be verified from the video alone, military sources stated that a full battle damage assessment is still ongoing. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, confirmed that details would be released to the public once the assessment is complete.
“We are still in that process, and I can assure you that once that is completed, we will communicate to the public all our observations,” Onoja stated during a briefing in Abuja on December 31, 2025.
The operation was first announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Christmas Day as part of counterterrorism cooperation with Nigeria. The Nigerian Federal Government later confirmed the strikes, describing them as a joint effort against Islamic State affiliates in the northwest.
Despite some public skepticism about the effectiveness of the mission, the newly surfaced footage provides visual confirmation of significant impact on terrorist infrastructure and personnel in the region.
