A video showing Nigerian singer Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, being transported to prison in a security vehicle has gone viral across social media platforms. The footage emerged shortly after the controversial artist was arraigned in court on multiple criminal charges.
Portable was brought before a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on Monday, facing a nine-count charge filed by the police. According to the Ogun State Police Command, the charges include assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
The case stems from an alleged violent incident at the singer's bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day. Prosecutors claim Portable assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, along with several police officers and other individuals. Additional complainants named in the charge are Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Among the most serious allegations is the theft of a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, reportedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola. Portable is also accused of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was on official duty.
The presiding judge denied Portable bail, insisting that the allegedly assaulted police officer must be present in court before any bail consideration. Consequently, the singer was remanded in custody and subsequently taken to prison, a moment captured in the now-widely circulated video.
Public reaction to the footage has been mixed, with some social media users expressing shock at the singer’s legal troubles, while others have commented on the recurring nature of his controversial public conduct. Portable’s case is scheduled to resume on January 19 for a fresh bail hearing.
