Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have arrested seven suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of firearms and recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and cult regalia following a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
The arrests, carried out between January 31 and February 11, 2026, by the command's Anti-Cultism Unit, resulted in the apprehension of suspects linked to the dreaded Black Axe confraternity and the recovery of five locally made pistols, seven live cartridges, a toy pistol, and other incriminating exhibits.
The Suspects
Those arrested have been identified as:
1. Chima George, 22
2. Chukwu Emeka Goodluck, 27
3. Julius Emenike, 23
4. Chika James, 23
5. Richard Wisdom, 22
6. Stephen Chinonso, 23
7. Chinoso Tom, 33
Exhibits Recovered
Items seized from the suspects during the coordinated operations include:
- Five (5) locally fabricated pistols
- Seven (7) live cartridges
- One (1) toy pistol
- Two (2) yellow berets bearing insignia of the Black Axe confraternity
- One (1) Maxmech furniture screw machine
Police sources indicate the yellow berets provide direct links to cult activities, confirming the suspects' alleged involvement in secret cult operations within the state. The recovered screw machine, typically used in furniture making, is being examined to determine whether it was utilized for modifying or manufacturing weapons.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of inquiries.
"The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirms the command's commitment to its constitutional duties and encourages members of the public to partner with the police by volunteering useful information and reporting any suspicious activity of security concerns to the nearest police station," Chinaka stated.
