Borno Police Officer Returns N2.6 Million Erroneously Transferred to His Account

A police officer serving with the Borno State Command has been commended for his integrity after returning N2.6 million that was mistakenly transferred into his personal bank account.

The officer, Mohammad Muhammad, noticed the unexpected funds on Thursday evening and promptly alerted his bank. He was instructed to visit the branch, where he completed a reversal form to return the money.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident and praised Muhammad’s conduct. “What the officer did shows integrity. His action clearly demonstrates a rare level of honesty, responsibility, and moral discipline,” Daso stated.

He added that such acts help strengthen public trust and reinforce the values expected of law enforcement officers.

Bank officials expressed surprise at the officer’s decision, noting that recipients in similar situations often spend the money before it can be recovered.

Mohammad Muhammad’s deed has been highlighted as an exemplary act of honesty worthy of recognition.
