Businessman Arrested at Kano Airport with Ingested Cocaine

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a 62-year-old Lagos businessman, Nwabueze Izueke, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for attempting to traffic cocaine.

Izueke was intercepted on January 31 during the clearance of passengers on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to China via Addis Ababa. A body scan revealed ingested contraband, leading to the expulsion of 95 jumbo-sized pellets of cocaine, weighing 1.589 kilograms.

According to the suspect's statement, he resorted to drug trafficking to finance the completion of a house in his hometown, Iwollo, Enugu State.

This arrest was part of a broader nationwide operation by the NDLEA, resulting in multiple seizures and arrests. In Abuja, 627.7 kilograms of skunk (a cannabis strain) were recovered from a makeshift warehouse in Kubwa. Additionally, attempts to smuggle methamphetamine concealed inside MP3 speakers from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna were foiled, leading to four arrests.

Further operations across several states yielded significant results:

*   In Taraba, methamphetamine was found concealed in yogurt packs.
*   In Oyo, a drug kingpin operating a synthetic cannabis production facility was arrested, along with large quantities of tramadol, skunk, and over ₦7.4 million in cash.
*   Major seizures of skunk were also made in Imo, Ondo, Kwara, Lagos, and Enugu states.

The NDLEA continues its intensified crackdown against drug trafficking networks across Nigeria.
