At least four people have been reported dead following a violent clash between Fulani herdsmen and residents of Ibaji Local Government Area in Kogi State.
The incident, which occurred in the Ejule Ojebe community, was confirmed on Monday by the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, who represents the Ibaji constituency.
In a statement issued from Lokoja, Egwaba expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives and condemned the violence. “I am deeply saddened by reports of violent clashes between Ibaji communities—particularly Ejule Ojebe—and Fulani herdsmen in parts of Ibaji Local Government Area, including the tragic loss of lives,” she said.
She emphasized that no conflict should result in the death of innocent persons or disrupt peaceful coexistence in the area.
The lawmaker called on security agencies to swiftly intervene, restore peace, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. She also stressed the need for long-term solutions to address underlying tensions between herders and host communities.
Egwaba urged community leaders, youth, and residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with security operatives to prevent further escalation.
She reassured constituents of her commitment to working with the state government, security forces, and traditional institutions to safeguard lives and promote lasting peace in Ibaji.
The cause of the clash is yet to be officially stated, and details surrounding the casualties remain under investigation.
