Nollywood actress Kemisola Apesin, popularly known as Kemity, has issued a forceful rebuttal to online critics who alleged she secured movie roles through sexual favours.
The rumours surfaced amid heightened social media tension between actors Austine Emmanuel and his longtime rival, Ibrahim 'Itele' Yekini. As supporters took sides, an online user dragged Kemity into the fray, claiming she had a romantic history with Itele and further alleging past sexual transactions involving the actress.
'My Name Is Clean'
In a lengthy Throwback Thursday post on Instagram, Kemity emphatically denied ever trading sexual favours for career advancement.
"I have never used my body to collect a movie role. I have never slept with anyone to get featured in any film. I have never exchanged sex for opportunity," she wrote.
"My name is clean. No one—and I mean no one—can ever come out boldly to say I used my body to collect anything from him."
Financial Independence Before Fame
The actress pushed back against suggestions that she entered Nollywood vulnerable or desperate. Long before her face became familiar to movie audiences, she insisted, she was already financially self-sufficient.
According to Kemity, she owned two wine shops and worked as a receptionist at Masters Hotel, Ayobo, Lagos, well before her acting career took off.
"Before I even met my boss, I already had two wine shops where I was selling wine. I worked as a receptionist at Masters Hotel, Ayobo," she revealed.
'Nothing Was Handed to Me'
The mother of two daughters also reflected on her unconventional career trajectory—moving from acting to professional makeup artistry before eventually returning to the screen. That transition, she explained, was driven by the financial realities of film production, not a lack of opportunity.
"From acting, to makeup, and back to acting—my growth has always been step by step. Nothing was handed to me," she stated.
Kemity emphasized that she is deliberate about the legacy she is building for her children. She also referenced her upbringing, describing herself as "a child of a churchwoman," and insisted her reputation remains unsullied despite the circulating gossip.
Her robust response has drawn widespread support from colleagues and fans, many of whom commended her refusal to let the allegation go unchallenged.
