"I Traded Real Love for Empty Promises": Woman's Viral Post Details Painful Regret After Leaving Faithful Partner

In a candid and emotional online confession, a young Nigerian woman has shared a deeply personal story of regret after ending a long-term relationship based on friends' advice and societal pressure, only to discover the man she left for was living a double life.

The woman, whose identity remains anonymous, began her story by describing a loving and supportive partner who stood by her throughout her university years. “He paid my school fees, supported my academics, bought my iPhones, and gave me a monthly allowance—all without being asked,” she recalled.

Despite his consistent care, their relationship hit a rough patch as she approached graduation. Feeling pressure to marry, she grew frustrated that he never discussed marriage. Instead of communicating openly, she began to convince herself he was “using” her.

It was then she met another man—a non-Nigerian working for a mining company—who spoke freely about marriage and future plans. Dreaming of a new life abroad, she created a WhatsApp group to seek advice from friends.

“None of them mentioned any good thing my ex had done for me,” she wrote. “They only focused on his faults.”

One friend zeroed in on a potential excuse: their genotypes. While the woman is AA, her ex is AS. The friend suggested she claim to be AS as a reason to leave. She took the advice and ended the four-year relationship.

Soon, her new relationship unraveled. The man was already married and had lied about nearly everything—his job, his intentions, and his promises. To add salt to the wound, she later discovered he worked at the same company as her ex, who held a significantly higher position.

“The man I left for could not even approach the man I abandoned without permission,” she shared.

When her new relationship collapsed, she returned to the same friends for support, only to find they had no real guidance. Worse yet, one friend later attempted to pursue her ex behind her back.

“All I have now is regret,” she concluded, warning others against making life-altering decisions based on external pressure or poorly informed counsel.

Her post has since sparked widespread conversation online about trust, communication in relationships, and the influence of peer advice. Many readers have expressed sympathy, while others stress the importance of valuing genuine commitment over grand promises.
