President praises governor Fintiri's development drive, says federal-state collaboration yielding results in education, infrastructure, agriculture
President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to maintain faith in his administration's economic reforms, declaring that the policies are already yielding tangible results across education, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors.
Speaking Monday during a one-day official visit to Adamawa State, Tinubu used the platform of project inaugurations to deliver an upbeat assessment of the nation's economic trajectory while commending the state government's development efforts.
Reforms Bearing Fruit
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president projected confidence in the direction of his economic policies.
"That is the consequence of us working together, and we will achieve more macroeconomic successes," Tinubu said. "We will achieve more for this country. We are investing heavily in agriculture and human capital development. We must be able to feed ourselves, feed the country."
The president highlighted the synergy between federal and state governments as a key driver of progress. "The solidarity that exists between the federal government and subnationals is extremely encouraging. Things that I don't have to remind you, you'll do it, you are carrying the people along. Please continue to do so."
Commending Fintiri
Tinubu reserved special praise for Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, crediting him with utilizing federation allocations effectively for roads and educational infrastructure.
"You're reflecting the true commitment of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people," Tinubu said. "Umaru Fintiri, I've seen a tremendous amount of renewal, commitment from you in investments in the education of our children, and I commend your vision and commitment to the development of Adamawa state."
The president noted that projects commissioned during the visit—including an eight-lane road, an underpass, and a modern high court—would ease mobility, stimulate commerce, and strengthen the administration of justice.
Call for Continued Focus
Tinubu urged state governments to channel more resources into poverty reduction and improving education quality—areas he described as fundamental to long-term national development.
He also thanked traditional and religious leaders for their roles in maintaining peace and unity, acknowledging the challenges of navigating macroeconomic changes.
"To all the title chiefs, to the traditional leaders, to religious faith leaders, thank you for keeping the peace, working together for Adamawa, working in harmony with one another, encouraging the spirit of togetherness," he said. "It is not easy to endure macroeconomic changes and the dynamics in our politics, but I thank all of you."
Ribadu Praised
The president also used the occasion to praise National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, a son of Adamawa, for providing strong leadership in the security architecture.
Fintiri's Response
Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude for the presidential visit, describing it as an honor for the state.
"We are honoured to receive you on your first visit, and we appreciate the privilege of having you here today to commission a few of our projects," Fintiri said, pledging the state's continued support for the president's reform agenda.
The Bigger Picture
Tinubu's Adamawa visit, his second in as many days following a trip to Kebbi State for the Argungu Fishing Festival, forms part of a broader outreach to states regardless of party affiliation. The president's message of patience and progress comes at a time when Nigerians continue to grapple with economic adjustments but also points to what the administration describes as green shoots of recovery.
For citizens of Adamawa, the day brought both commissioned projects and a presidential vote of confidence in their governor's development vision. Whether the promised macroeconomic successes materialize at the household level remains the ultimate test of Tinubu's "keep the faith" appeal.
