Lionel Messi Continues MLS Dominance with League-Best Performance Rating

Despite turning 38, Lionel Messi is proving he remains the most impactful player in Major League Soccer. The Inter Miami captain currently leads the league with an average match rating of 8.32 out of 10, according to statistics from Sofascore.

This metric places him ahead of other top performers like New England Revolution's Carles Gil (8.02) and FC Cincinnati's Evander (8.01). The rating underscores Messi's consistent influence, even as he trails slightly in combined goals and assists this season.

Messi’s recent form has been exceptional, highlighted by a two-goal, one-assist performance in a 4-1 victory over CF Montreal. This followed a perfect 10/10 rated game in late May, where he scored twice and provided two assists against Columbus Crew.

Having already secured the 2024 MLS MVP award, Messi’s current average rating actually surpasses last season’s mark of 8.23, suggesting another MVP-caliber campaign is underway. Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, he has led the team to a Leagues Cup title and a Supporters' Shield while continuing to deliver extraordinary individual performances.
