A 47-year-old man from Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, has been arrested by police for the murder of his 30-year-old girlfriend, Abosede Adesanya, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave inside his room.
The suspect, Kazeem Adebayo, was in a relationship with Adesanya, a mother of five. The tragedy unfolded after the victim’s 84-year-old mother, Amoke, sold a piece of land with the intention of purchasing another property where she and her daughter planned to build a home. Adebayo, who witnessed the sale documents, offered to help them secure a new plot.
According to investigations, Adebayo later invited Abosede to his house, asking her to bring the ₦530,000 proceeds from the land sale. Once she arrived, he allegedly attacked her with a heavy pestle, striking her on the head. She died from the injuries sustained.
After the killing, Adebayo buried her body in a shallow grave inside his room. He then used ₦30,000 from the money to settle a personal debt and concealed the remainder in his ceiling.
When Abosede did not return home, her mother grew concerned and contacted Adebayo, who claimed he had not seen her. Amoke subsequently reported her daughter missing to the police.
The case was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Ijebu Igbo. During a search of Adebayo’s residence, officers discovered the shallow grave containing Abosede’s body, along with the hidden money.
Adebayo has since confessed to the crime and is currently in police custody awaiting prosecution.
