Yobe State Police have arrested a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Hassan Umaru, for allegedly killing a fellow villager, Sukari Abdul, 45, over suspicions that the victim was having an affair with his wife.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on February 1, 2026, in Bundila Village, Gulani Local Government Area.
The police said Umaru confronted Abdul at the local market square, where he allegedly attacked him with a cutlass. The victim was rushed to Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility but was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
“The suspect was immediately apprehended, and the cutlass used in committing the offence was recovered,” Abdulkarim stated. He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
In response to the incident, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, cautioned residents against resorting to violence to resolve personal disputes.
“The Commissioner of Police warns members of the public against taking the law into their hands, especially in resolving marital or social disputes, and urges residents to report grievances to appropriate authorities,” the statement concluded.
