The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, has initiated a collaborative effort to address critical health challenges facing women across Nigeria.
The initiative was unveiled during a meeting in Abuja convened by the health ministry and facilitated by the presidential office, which brought together women leaders, civil society groups, and non-governmental organizations.
Dr. Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, outlined the new nationwide strategy named RenewHER—an acronym for Health, Equity, and Reform. The program, launched by President Bola Tinubu in September 2025, is structured around three key pillars:
1. Digital Media and Advocacy Hub: Designed to bridge widespread knowledge gaps in women’s health, this platform will disseminate evidence-based information to improve health literacy and awareness of available services.
2. Geopolitically Anchored Campaigns: In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, these campaigns will identify and tackle region-specific health priorities across the country.
3. Coalitions and Summits: This pillar focuses on building partnerships through symposia and collaborative networks to drive forward the national women’s health agenda.
Dr. Steinacker emphasized that the approach aims to break down institutional barriers and position women’s health as a shared national priority.
Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary for the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, expressed her office’s commitment to supporting programs that enhance the health and well-being of Nigerian women.
This coordinated effort marks a significant step in aligning policy, advocacy, and outreach to improve health outcomes for women and girls throughout Nigeria.
