Oyo State Police Command Arrest Two Over Killing of 62-Year-Old Woman

The Oyo State Police Command has taken two suspects into custody in connection with the alleged killing of a 62-year-old woman in the Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido Local Government Area.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the suspects — Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40 — are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Body Discovered Along Bush Path

According to the police, the victim’s lifeless body was discovered by a passerby along a bush path within the community. Authorities said the woman was found in a pool of blood with a deep wound to her neck.

Preliminary findings suggest the body may have remained at the location for about seven days before it was discovered.

Following the report, detectives visited the scene and immediately evacuated the remains to Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Case Transferred to State CID

The police spokesperson stated that the scene was cordoned off while forensic experts collected evidence to aid the investigation.

To ensure a thorough and discreet inquiry, the case has been transferred to the State CID. Initial investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, both residents of the Ori-Apata area.

“They are currently assisting with ongoing investigations, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend any other individuals linked to the crime,” the statement noted.

Police Commissioner Visits Community

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, accompanied by senior government officials, visited the community to assess the situation and sympathise with the bereaved family.

He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate deployments aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the area.

Security Measures Intensified

The command urged residents and the victim’s family to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. It added that joint patrols involving other security agencies and relevant stakeholders have commenced in the affected community and surrounding areas.

Tactical teams and operational assets have been strategically deployed to enhance visibility policing and reassure residents of their safety.

The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and pledged to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. Residents were also encouraged to provide credible information that could assist in the investigation.
