The Ondo State Police Command has taken a woman into custody over the alleged poisoning of a three-year-old boy in the Omifon community of Odigbo Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, identifying the suspect as Nafisat Lateef, a 40-year-old landlady. The child involved is reportedly the son of one of her tenants.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., following a disagreement between the suspect and the child’s mother, Rofiat.
Jimoh stated that during the altercation, the landlady allegedly gave the toddler, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance believed to be poisonous.
“Shortly after ingesting the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that officers from the command carried out a swift, intelligence-driven operation that led to the suspect’s arrest. During the investigation, detectives also recovered the liquid substance allegedly used in the act.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements,” Jimoh disclosed.
The Ondo State Police Command said a comprehensive investigation is ongoing, and the case will be formally charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
