Tactical squad cracks down on Supreme Eiye Confraternity hideout in Arakale area, as Ondo CP vows sustained offensive against criminal networks
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have dismantled a suspected cult hideout in the Arakale area of Akure metropolis, arresting three alleged members of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity and recovering an arsenal of weapons, communication equipment, and illicit drugs.
The midnight raid, conducted on February 10 at approximately 11 p.m., was executed by the command's Tactical Intelligence Response Squad following weeks of intelligence gathering on cult activities in the area, according to police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
The Midnight Raid
Acting on credible information, the tactical team swooped on the reputed cultists' enclave, apprehending three suspects identified as Damilola, 34, popularly known as "2Gbaski"; Uthman, 29; and Akinwale—all believed to be entrenched members of the outlawed Supreme Eiye Confraternity.
Jimoh confirmed that the suspects have since made confessional statements acknowledging their involvement in cult-related activities and other criminal enterprises across the state.
Exhibits Recovered
A thorough search of the suspects and the hideout yielded a cache of incriminating items, including:
- One axe, suspected to be used as a weapon of terror
- One beret cap, a known insignia of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity
- One Retevis walkie-talkie, indicating organized communication among gang members
- Sachets of tramadol, a prescription opioid commonly abused by criminals
- A substance suspected to be marijuana
- One ice bunker
The recovery of a walkie-talkie has raised concerns about the level of sophistication among cult networks operating in the state, suggesting coordinated activities that extend beyond street-level violence.
'Investigation Ongoing'
Jimoh stated that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to unravel other possible accomplices and recover additional exhibits. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the trio will be charged to court accordingly.
"The command remains resolute in its determination to dismantle cult networks and ensure the safety and security of all residents," the spokesperson affirmed.
Police Leadership Commended
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal expressed appreciation to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for providing strategic leadership, operational guidance, and resources that have significantly enhanced the command's anti-cultism operations.
Lawal used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to youths across the state, advising them to shun all forms of cultism. He emphasized that there is no gain in engaging in such acts, as they only lead to grave consequences—including death, incarceration, and shattered futures.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
The CP reassured residents of the command's proactive commitment to maintaining a peaceful and crime-free environment. He further urged members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information that will aid the police in combating crimes and criminalities across the state.
The Arakale operation represents the latest success in what police describe as a sustained offensive against cult-related violence in Ondo State. For residents of the area, the midnight raid brought temporary relief—but the dismantling of one hideout does not mean the end of the war.
As Jimoh put it, the command's efforts will continue "to rid the state of cult-related activities and other criminal elements." Whether the arrests translate into long-term safety depends on what happens next—in the courts, on the streets, and in the lives of young men tempted to trade their futures for a beret and a walkie-talkie.
