Three Men Remanded Over Alleged Murder of Woman and Six Children in Kano

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano has ordered the remand of three men accused of murdering a 35-year-old housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children at their home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters.

The defendants—Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu, 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21—are facing an eight-count charge that includes conspiracy, criminal trespass, robbery, culpable homicide, rape, mischief by fire, possession of dangerous weapons, and inflicting injuries.

According to the prosecution led by the Kano State Attorney General, Abdulkarim Maude, SAN, the alleged crimes took place on January 17, 2026. Maude stated that Umar, a nephew of the deceased, conspired with the others to trespass into her residence, where they reportedly killed her and her six children.

The prosecutor further linked the defendants to earlier attacks in November 2025 in Tudun Yola Quarters, where two other housewives were allegedly robbed, killed, and set on fire.

In a related development, the court also ordered the remand of a fourth suspect, Umar Ali, who is accused of receiving the eyes of a nine-year-old girl allegedly removed by Umar Auwalu after she was raped.

All defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, which are brought under Sections 97, 221, 283, 298, 319, 336, and 348 of the Penal Code.
