A Nigerian man who had just arrived in the United Kingdom to pursue his studies has tragically passed away, prompting his loved ones to seek public assistance.
Oluwatobiloba Oyagunna, 39, died on February 2, 2026, less than a week after landing in the UK on January 26. He had come to begin a Master's program in Business and Computing. According to a fundraising campaign, he lost consciousness at his residence, was rushed to a hospital, but could not be saved.
Oyagunna, originally from Gbongan in Osun State, Nigeria, is remembered as a dedicated husband and father to two young children. His sudden death has left his family heartbroken, especially as he had moved abroad with the goal of building a better life for them.
A GoFundMe page, organized by Mariam Mustapha, has been set up to cover burial costs and to help his family during this period of immense grief. The appeal aims to give Oyagunna a respectful farewell and alleviate the financial strain on his survivors.
Described as an orphan and the eldest of three siblings, Oyagunna was known for his resilience and determination. A close friend recalled their time together at Kwara State Polytechnic, noting Oyagunna's perseverance through hardship to finally achieve his dream of studying in the UK—a dream cut short just days after it began.
The fundraiser has set a goal of £9,500. As of the latest update, £717 has been contributed. Organizers are asking the public to donate or share the campaign to support the family.
