Two Killed, Seven Injured in Early-Morning Mass Shooting in Richmond Nightlife District

A deadly shooting rocked the United States early Saturday morning, leaving two people dead and seven others injured in the historic Shockoe Bottom district of Richmond.

According to the Richmond Police Department, the violence erupted around 2:45 a.m. on North 18th Street, a popular nightlife hub known for its bars and restaurants.

Officers already on patrol reportedly noticed a large crowd engaged in what appeared to be a heated confrontation. Moments later, gunfire broke out.

Police Chief Rick Edwards said responding officers quickly located an adult woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly after, officers discovered an unresponsive adult man with apparent gunshot injuries. He also died at the scene.

In total, nine adults were shot during the incident. Two victims — one male and one female — were fatally wounded. Another man remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while six others — three men and three women — sustained non-life-threatening wounds. Four victims were transported to local hospitals by emergency responders, and three sought medical care independently.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation that escalated rapidly, with multiple individuals becoming involved before shots were fired. Authorities recovered more than 50 shell casings from the scene, and preliminary reports suggest at least two shooters may have been involved.

The deceased victims were later identified as 23-year-old Genesis Jones of Petersburg and 42-year-old Dominic Jackson of Henrico County.

Officials described the violence as particularly troubling, noting that the night had been relatively calm prior to the outbreak of gunfire. Some reports indicate the shooting may have been connected to a birthday celebration, with at least one bystander caught in the crossfire.

As of the latest update, no arrests have been announced and no suspect information has been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
