A 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer, Sheriff Shittu, has been fatally shot during a late-night incident at a nightclub in New York City, authorities confirmed.
Shittu, who was building his career in the United States, was killed in the early hours of February 14 at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Altercation Escalates Into Gunfire
According to police and local media reports, the shooting occurred around 4:25 a.m. after a patron who had reportedly caused a disturbance inside the venue was being escorted out by security personnel.
Witness accounts indicate the individual had been behaving erratically and allegedly harassed female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend. The situation reportedly escalated into a heated confrontation before the suspect was removed from the premises.
Authorities say that while being led out of the club, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm and opened fire, striking Shittu. The gunman fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large as investigations continue.
Family Demands Answers
Shittu had attended the event with his younger brother to celebrate a friend’s birthday. His brother later described the chaotic aftermath, recalling attempts to revive him before emergency responders arrived.
The victim was transported to One Brooklyn Health–Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Family members have since called for justice, raising concerns about security protocols at the venue and questioning how a weapon was brought inside the establishment.
Rising Safety Concerns
The fatal shooting has sparked broader conversations about nightlife safety and venue security standards in major U.S. cities. Law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt for the suspect and are reviewing surveillance footage as part of ongoing inquiries.
Described by relatives as ambitious and hardworking, Shittu was reportedly focused on expanding his fashion brand and establishing himself within the competitive U.S. fashion industry before the tragic incident cut his life short.
Police have urged anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward as the investigation remains active.
