AFCON 2025: Nigerian Football Stars Send Condolences After Anthony Joshua Accident

Nigerian athletes at the Africa Cup of Nations have expressed their shock and condolences following the car accident involving heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua in Nigeria.

The crash, which occurred earlier this week, tragically killed two of Joshua's friends and trainers, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was reported to be in stable condition.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen called the news "devastating."
"He's been one of the huge celebrities that put Nigeria on the map," Osimhen stated. "Condolences to the families of the deceased. It's not a beautiful thing to lose a life."

His teammates echoed the sentiment. Bright Osayi-Samuel described it as "tragic," while Wilfred Ndidi sent wishes for strength to Joshua and the families affected.

Nigeria Advances in AFCON

The players shared their thoughts after Nigeria's 3-1 victory over Uganda, which secured their place in the tournament's knockout stages as Group C winners. Raphael Onyedika scored twice in the second half to confirm the win.

Nigeria, aiming for a fourth AFCON title, is considered one of the favorites in the competition, which features other strong sides like Morocco, Egypt, and Senegal.
