The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, has pledged that terrorists fleeing military operations in the north will not infiltrate the areas under his command.
Speaking at a year-end media engagement in Ibadan, Major General Nnebeife attributed the movement of insurgents toward other regions to the sustained pressure applied by troops in the northeast. He assured residents that robust measures are in place to prevent any spillover of violence into the Division’s jurisdiction, stating that people can now “sleep with their two eyes closed.”
Appeal for Balanced Media Reporting
The Army chief emphasized the importance of collaboration with the media, describing journalists as essential partners in national security. He called for fair, factual, and development-oriented reporting that highlights military progress alongside challenges.
“This is not a call for propaganda,” he clarified. “It is a patriotic appeal for journalism that considers the broader national interest.” He warned that sensational or unverified reports could undermine public trust and spread panic during security operations.
Major General Nnebeife commended the professionalism of journalists covering the Division and assured continued transparency and timely information sharing. He also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for improving troop welfare and logistics, which he said enhances operational effectiveness and morale.
