The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has announced significant progress in its nationwide counter-terrorism operations, reporting the elimination of several high-profile terrorist commanders and the arrest of over 4,000 suspects in 2025.
High-Profile Neutralizations
Among those reportedly killed are prominent leaders such as Aminu Kanawa, Dan Bokolo, Bello Buba, and Abu Dan Shehu Jabbi. The military stated that many of these individuals were on its wanted list and were neutralized across various operational theaters.
Operational Statistics and Rescues
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, provided an overview during an end-of-year briefing. He reported that, within the year, troops also secured the surrender of 1,616 terrorists and their family members and successfully rescued 2,336 kidnapped hostages.
Proactive Security Measures
General Onoja acknowledged that sustained military pressure has caused some terrorist factions to relocate. He assured the public that intelligence assets are actively monitoring these movements and that proactive measures are in place to prevent infiltrations into communities.
The Director urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious activities, reaffirming the military's commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action across the country.
