U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) has confirmed that five individuals were killed in a kinetic military strike on December 31st against two vessels linked to designated terrorist organizations and narcotics trafficking.
According to officials, intelligence confirmed the vessels were transiting known drug trafficking routes and were actively involved in trafficking at the time of the engagement. Three individuals were reported killed on the first vessel and two on the second.
The operation, identified as part of Operation Southern Spear, was publicly documented with video footage released by SOUTHCOM showing a strike on a vessel at sea.
