Following Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has responded to the on-field disagreement with teammate Victor Osimhen that occurred during the match.
Osimhen, who scored twice in the Round of 16 win, was visibly frustrated during the game and was later substituted. After the final whistle, he left the pitch immediately, sparking criticism from fans on social media.
However, Lookman, who was named Man of the Match for his goal and two assists, downplayed the incident. Speaking at a post-match press conference, he stated, "I have not seen Osimhen but I don’t think that matters. Vic is our number one guy, everybody knows this. He’s a top striker. So, all of that doesn’t matter."
Head coach Eric Chelle also addressed the situation, choosing not to publicly analyze the exchange and instead planning to handle the matter internally with the team. Nigeria will face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarter-finals.
