AFCON 2025: Osimhen Appears Isolated Following On-Field Altercation

Attentions were fixed on striker Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s training session on Wednesday as the team returned to the pitch after resolving a dispute over unpaid bonuses at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The session, held in Morocco, took place a day after players had boycotted training in protest over outstanding match payments. According to sources, assurances from football authorities prompted the squad’s return to a normal schedule.

Observers noted that Osimhen trained with limited interaction from teammates following his public disagreement with fellow forward Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Mozambique in the round of 16. For much of the session, Osimhen appeared isolated on the field and did not publicly address the incident or apologize, leading to speculation about lingering tension within the camp.

However, a squad member downplayed the significance of his demeanor, stating that such behavior was not unusual for the Napoli striker.

“People are overreacting. Osimhen is often like that in training—it’s nothing new to the team,” the unnamed player said. “He has an explosive nature, but it’s never anything serious. The senior players have even briefed the newer ones about it.”

The source added that previous disagreements involving Osimhen have always been resolved internally without long-term effects on team cohesion.

Nigeria is preparing for a high-stakes quarter-final clash against Algeria this Saturday. Team officials have emphasized that all focus is now on the match, with internal matters settled and bonuses in the process of being paid.
