An Egyptian naval vessel briefly entered Israeli territorial waters without authorization on Thursday, leading Israeli forces to fire warning shots before the ship returned to Egyptian territory, according to Israeli military sources.
The incident began when the vessel strayed into Israeli waters. Israeli Navy patrols issued repeated radio and verbal commands ordering it to halt and identify itself. After receiving no response, Israeli forces proceeded with standard protocols and fired warning shots into the water ahead of the boat.
Following the warning, the Egyptian vessel immediately altered course and exited Israeli waters. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that the situation was resolved quickly, with no injuries or damage reported.
Officials emphasized that the incident was handled professionally and in accordance with established maritime procedures designed to prevent escalation. They also reaffirmed the strength of Israeli-Egyptian security cooperation, calling Egypt a vital strategic partner under their long-standing peace treaty.
An Israeli military source stated that Egyptian authorities contacted their counterparts shortly after the incident to apologize for what was described as a navigational error. Cairo accepted full responsibility and assured Israel that measures would be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Both nations indicated that the incident would not affect ongoing security coordination along their shared border or the Gaza coastline.
