African Union Praises Uganda Election, Congratulates Museveni on Seventh-Term Win

The African Union Commission (AUC) has issued a statement commending the conduct of Uganda’s presidential election held on January 15 and congratulating President Yoweri Museveni on his re-election.

Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, secured a decisive victory with approximately 71.65% of the vote, extending his rule into a seventh term. His main challenger, opposition leader Bobi Wine, received 24.72%.

In the statement, AUC Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf applauded the electoral process and reiterated the union's commitment to supporting democracy and good governance across the continent.

He also thanked former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan for his leadership of the joint AU election observation mission, describing his role as providing “sterling leadership.”
