Building Collapse in Akure Injures Seven

A storey building under construction collapsed on Oyemekun Road in Akure, Ondo State, on Tuesday afternoon, leaving seven people with injuries.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. while workers were on site. Emergency responders and sympathizers quickly mobilized to pull trapped individuals from the rubble. All injured victims were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the collapse, the Ondo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sunday Olajide, visited the site. He announced that the state government would conduct a full investigation to determine the cause of the structural failure.

Olajide issued a stern warning to developers against using substandard materials and emphasized the critical importance of adhering to safety standards. He also reiterated the legal requirement for builders to secure all necessary permits before commencing construction.

The construction site has been sealed by the state government pending the outcome of the investigation.
